Where is Umbridge Castle

 Have a reference in Fasti Ecclesiae[ book on Scottish ministers] of Hugh Anderson of Umbridge Castle. There does not appear to be a castle in Scotland of this name. Have checked records from Scotland the original transcript says of Umbridge Castle. The article is dated 1751.Hugh was born
c1704 in Morayshire but may have moved possibly Edinburgh. Could this be the name of an Estate or .
House. I have searched myself for 12months

 Does anyone have a suggestion as to this place would be geatful Ellecat

Could be Northumbria
Northumbria was disputed between the emerging kingdoms of England and Scotland. The land north of the Tweed was finally ceded to Scotland in 1018 as a result of the battle of Carham. Yorkshire and Northumberland were first mentioned as separate in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle in 1065.

I am prepared to stick my neck out and say that there is no real castle in Scotland called Umbridge. So we have to try to think how this place might have been (mis)spelled or mistranscribed. Ideally one would want to see the original handwritten record, not the version used by Hew Scott in Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae.

In which volume of Fasti is Hugh Anderson listed? Where was he a minister?

The Northumbria suggestion is interesting, even if the chosen image is a tad mischievous (that particular castle wasn't built until 1868-1886, long after Hugh's death), but Hugh's birth was almost 700 years after the Battle of Carham, and the land south of the Tweed was in England.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

 We have had a researcher check the role of heirs were the details for fasti would have been acquired.
 We too expected  wrong spelling or misread, but the original has Umbridge castle  as well.

  Hugh of Umbridge castle is listed under his father Rev Alexander Anderson of Duffus,so look under Duffus Parish . It appears in a few volumes. Thanks for your reply Ellecat

Both Northumberland & Cumberland came under Scottish control at various times post the Battle of Carham. The border on the west was the river Eamont. The Tweed as the border was set in 1237 by the Treaty of York. The land north of the Tweed was taken, not ceded, post the battle of Carham & the use of Gaelic spread south to that river!

 Thankyou for entry details in fasti were there is a reference to Lachlan Shaws history of Moray
 Your reference to Hugh  is earlier  same family group . We are interested in a Hugh Anderson b c1704
 heir to his fathers estate  his father died 1721 . Hugh is in the heir roll 1751 , so I suspect he and mother held the various properties till 1751 very unusual.The only other information I  have is Hugh was a writer in Edinburgh[lawyer] from 1726. Have looked for roll of writers. There must be sumway to find this person .
