I'm afraid that you will have to purchase a death certificate from the Registrars.  Currently you can obtain a pdf version of the certificate, from GRO, for £6.00.  I cannot see a death registration 1881-1885 for Margaret Gendle.  The only death registration 1880 - 1890 is for Margaret Ann Gendle and that is in Stoke Damerel District, Devon.

Found her  ;D

Margaret Gendles - registered September quarter 1883 - Middlesbrough, 9d page 349.

Easiest and cheapest way for the death certificate - via GRO  https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

You will have to register - no charge - and then pay by credit/debit card - £6.00

Perfect - thank you so much.

Sadly there was a history of mental illness in the family, a grandmother and 2 sisters, I was beginning to think that poor Margaret may have finished up in Clifton, and there would be no record of her.

Will send for certificate immediately.

Have the charges been reduced - it used to be £9.25, which is crippling when converted into South African Rand!

Many thanks

You now have a choice for some certificates - £6.00 for a pdf file or £9.25 for a paper copy.  If you oly need for family history purposes - go for the pdf.
