Kitty Power - born in a convent (Lixnaw)
« on: Friday 16 February 18 19:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm doing some research for a friend and have a query to put to you all.

His grandmother 'E' fled Ireland with her boyfriend to get married in Wales as she was pregnant at the time, and left her family behind (parent's and siblings etc).

'E's parents were Thomas Spillane & 'Kitty' Power. 'E' knows that Thomas was from Ahabeg in Kerry, and that Kitty was from Lixnaw. Apparently Kitty was born in a convent in Lixnaw after her mother, Margaret Power, was sent there from Waterford. I'm assuming Kitty was illegitimate.

Thomas Spillane was born c. 1898, but I haven't been able to find Kitty's birth, i'm thinking maybe Catherine was her birth name?

If anyone knows how i can find records of Kitty, or can help me find records of Kitty & her mother Margaret, that would be much appreciated.

Keelan

I was getting confused with generation there   ::)

This looks like the marriage of Thomas Spillane and Catherine (Kitty) Power.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1929/09073/5282509.pdf

It shows her father as John Power deceased which if the story is correct, is a fictional name.

This may be nothing to do with Kitty but there is a C P , 15yrs  in the Workhouse in Listowel in 1911.

This would fit with the marriage.
