John Ashlin
« on: Saturday 17 February 18 16:12 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I am struggling to to find the Father of John Ashlin 1807-1858 and his spouse, I have come across a John Ashlin  married to Mary Short but have had no luck in getting dates. I am assuming that they are from St Pancras London as the rest of the family seem to be from that area. My aim is to get as far back as possible with fathers and sons with their wives. Could someone be good enough to do some lookups for me as I have limited information resources available. Many thanks. Ezyryder

The John Ashlin whose death was registered in St Pancras in Sep qtr 1858 was said to be aged 62, so born abt 1796 rather than c1807.  His residence, according to the burial register at Victoria Park (nonconformist) cemetery, was 75 Harrison St, Gray’s Inn Lane.  Burial was 25 July 1858.

Where was your John in 1851, how old, what birthplace was stated, and who was he with?

Hi
Thank you for the correction, dont know why I put the wrong date in. I dont have info on where John was in 1851 but in 1832 he was in Edmonton possibly??  In 1822 Married Harriett Abbey 1800-1873.

It was  actually his Father I was looking for, also I believe to be a John Ashlin Married to Mary Short??? but all info on this line is most welcome. Gets a bit confusing when the father and son have the same name!! Thanks again.

How do you (even tentatively) have his parents’ names if you don’t have his baptism?  I would have thought you’d need to nail down his birthdate and birthplace as a priority - especially by reference to the 1851 census.

Norfolk St was also the Ashlin family’s address when they had daughters Harriet (born 11.03.1838) and Lydia (born 26.10.1840) baptised at St Pancras on 24.01.1841.
