William Kitto - Lambeth
« on: Monday 19 February 18 03:54 GMT (UK) »
My 3x Great Grandfather William Kitto died 27th May 1872 at 19 Wellington Terrace in South Lambeth. His occupation at the time of his death was Bookmaker. He was 63. His age may have been transcribed wrongly as I have his Birth as 12 March 1802 in Devonport.

I can't find William in 1861 or 1871 census returns, previous census' have listed him as a compositor.

If anyone can help me locate these census returns I would be very grateful.

Thanks - K.

Not much help but in 1861 his son Charles T is in Leeds Yorkshire a private in the army.

They were on Edward Street when daughter Mary Ann was baptised 19 January 1834 St John the Evangelist Lambeth
A year later  7 June 1835 they were on Canterbury Street for baptism of Charles T.

Hi Amondg,

Thanks for your reply. I do have that information, it's just the 1861/1871 census' that seem to be evading me. I suppose I will just have to order his death certificate and find who the informant was to see if I can find them in 1871, he may be living with them you never know!

K.

Just noticed that the Ann Kitto death in 1855 was in the workhouse (Southwark) so is documented.

Admitted: 13 Sept 1855, age 50 (transcribed Kitts).
under parish to which belonging, it says "Stoke Damerel, Devon"
Then under the other columns it says: "Very ill. Note from M.O. Pendle. brought by husband from 7 Princes Place, Suffolk St"
Discharge: 8 Oct 1855, Dead (Kitto)
Parish to which charged: St Georges

Thank you for that info! Though it is sad to know she died in the workhouse.
