CARGILL and EATON
« on: Saturday 24 February 18 19:54 GMT (UK) »
Some friends of mine have been researching the crew of the Carpathia, the ship that rescued survivors from the Titanic in 1912. Two crewmen were from Kincardineshire, John Cargill(19), Able Seaman, and David Eaton(36), Carpenter.

From Scotlandspeople, John Ritchie Cargill was born in 1893 at Gourdon to John Cargill, fisherman, and Jean Black (m.1886 at Bervie), and David Eaton was born in 1876 at Marykirk, the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Eaton, Tailoress.

Given John Cargill's middle name, he might have been related to Alexander Ritchie of Gourdon (see my post below about this man).

You can download the relevent crew agreement of CARPATHIA for free from the National Archive.

There maybe some information within.
I note there was several persons with the surname Eaton who were members of CARPATHIA'S crew at this time.
