Mapping
« on: Wednesday 28 February 18 12:13 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Having found quite a number of relatives in the Wolverhampton / Willenhall area I am interested to try and put them on some sort of map. I'm not familiar with the midlands so I think it would help me visualise where they lived in relation to each other and when.

I have found something called Map visualiser based on Google which will probably work but wondered if anyone has other suggestions.

I know I could buy a paper map and some coloured stickers but don't want to really.

Thanks
Ian

There's also the National Library of Scotland's map series.
It has maps for Wolverhampton & environs from 1885.

What I do is number the locations 1,2,3 etc. & then put a legend on the side naming who & when.

If you create a map on Google Maps, you will be allowed to put your own markers on your own private map. I use it every time we go on holiday to mark a few sites to visit while away. It's really useful. You just touch the map and a pin point  appaeers and then you enter some text. You then save it and can access it from anywhere using your Google account.

I'm on a Mac so GenMap is out but looks interesting.

I've been on the National Library of Scotland site before but didn't know you could do that..

Google maps, I've used that a tiny bit I think I could only get 1 colour label or something which put me off.

I'm not on my own wanting to locate ancestors so that good to know.
Thanks for replies, I've learned some stuff today which is always good!

Google maps gives you lots of different colours.  Try this link to see a sample of one of mine, showing family movements.:

Fair play that's just the type of thing I want to do. I obviously didn't look at Google properly.
That's a big help many thanks!
