Help with pre 1837 marriage
« on: Wednesday 28 February 18 20:13 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Have been trying to find the marriage of William Griffiths (abt 1781 - 1849) to Alice (1771- 1863) with no luck, can anyone else with access to pre 1837 marriages in Carmarthenshire find them?

William was a Carpenter, birth place unknown, suspect Llanddarog or Llanarthney. Alice was born Llanarthney. One definite son Owen Griffiths (1816-1900), born Llanarthney (with them in 1841 and his mother in 1851). In 1841 they lived in Cwmmawr Cottage, Hamlet of Trecastell, Llanarthney. In 1851 Alice was living at Felyn Cwmmawr (the residence is also referred to as Velin y Cwm).

Other possible children are John Griffiths (1808-1841) and David Griffiths (1800- ?)

Regards

possible marriage in Llanddarog 9 Jan 1798 of William Griffith of Llanarthney & Alse Thomas of Llanddarog, he signed, she marked, witnesses David William & William Walter?

There's also a William Griffith married to a Susannah who are having children in Llanarthney at that time, they had twins, David & William, baptised 14 Nov 1802.

Possible baptisms
27 Feb 1803 William son of William Griffith
3 April 1805 Thomas son of William Griffith
6 Feb 1809 Philip son of William Griffith, labourer

Cornwall: Allen, Bevan, Bosisto, Carnpezzack, Donithorn, Huddy, James, Retallack, Russell, Vincent, Yeoman
Cards: Thomas (Llanbadarn Fawr)
Glam: Bowler, Cram, Galloway, James, Thomas, Watkins
Lincs: Coupland, Cram
Mon: Cram, Gwyn, John, Philpot, Smart, Watkins
Pembs: Edwards (St. Dogmael's)

not sure about the one to William Griffith, labourer as there's another one in 1813 using the new style register to William, labourer, & wife, Mary.

There is a David baptised 25 March 1807, son of William Griffiths.

Thanks very much for this Alse could easily be Alice and in the 1841 census she is also entered as Aly rather than Alice

it's in the Carmarthenshire parish record marriages on FindMyPast. Also on FamilySearch

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KCLF-2VF

Not finding any 1798 marriages on FreeReg although there are earlier ones.
