Snell 1561
« on: Saturday 03 March 18 03:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have number of sheets on which there is meant to be a person with the name Richard Snell who had a child baptised.  I am hoping the child is Walter Snell.   But I cannot find any Snells on the sheets.

Many thanks Bronwen Summers Ch.Ch. NZ

I agree Bronwen - no Snells among those entries.

The only remote possibility is the last one before the year break on the fourth sheet.

Gracia filia Ph(ilippi) S? et Ph(ilippe)...

The surname isn't clear but probably is Sime.  I don't think it's Snell.

I am wondering, however, whether there has been confusion over the year.

I think the heading on Sheet 4 is:  Incipit annos domini 1561

Sheet 3 follows Sheet 4 - Alicia Darke being the common entry.

I believe Sheet 1 follows Sheet 2 - with Hugo Hawkin being the common entry.

Looking at the dates, the order is: Sheets 2 - 1 - 4 - 3

The period covered is 25 October 1560 to 25 October 1561.

So if your child of Richard Snell was born from 25 October 1561 to the last day of 1561 in Old Style dating
(= 24 March 1562 in New Style), you don't have coverage.

ADDED:

To put it another way, the sheets here cover five months of Old Style 1560 and seven months of Old Style 1561, leaving 5 months of Old Style 1561 without coverage.
