Walsall St Matthew Parish Registers - TOLLEY
« on: Saturday 03 March 18 14:08 GMT (UK) »
I would be grateful with some help with the following please:

From the IGI I have a marriage of a William TOLLEY and a Hannah HEAT on the 13th February 1837 at St Matthew, Walsall.  The transcription does not include any further detail.

I would be interested to learn the names of their respective fathers (if noted), who the witnesses to the marriage were and whether the transcription of the brides surname is correct (I think it should be HIATT)

Welcome to Rootschat.  Whilst the images don't seem to be available on-line, you can view the Bishop's Transcripts of the parish registers of St Matthew, Walsall at an LDS (Mormon) Family History Centre.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thanks ciderdrinker and BumbleB.

ciderdrinker, those are the folk who I believe to be the couple married at Walsall in 1837.

I've since found that microfilm of the Registers are at the Stafford Records Office, so maybe a day out to Stafford for me.  However I will check if there is an LDS Centre that is closer.

Best wishes

As the marriage was before 1 July 1837, it won't contain details of the couple's fathers.  :(

A visit to Stafford Record Office produced the following from the Parish Register for St Matthew, Walsall:

Page No. 142
Entry No. 424
Date 13th February 1837

William Tolley of this parish, bachelor and Hannah Hiat of this parish, spinster were married by Banns

Both William and Hannah sign their names (Hannah signing her name as Hiatt)
The witnesses are William Hiatt and Charles Longmore; both sign their names.

Hannah did have a brother called William, so it is likely he is the first witness.  Charles Longmore signs as second witness on quite a few marriage entries.
