Gregory family Wrockwardine, Wrockwardine Wood, Shawbury
« on: Sunday 04 March 18 17:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I wonder if any one as been researching this family, I am descended from William Gregory who married Selina Wood.  Looking at various family trees my lot may have originted from the Shawbury area but I have nothing concrete.  The earliest that I am reasonably sure of is Joseph who married  Catherine Jones in 1796 at Wrockwardine.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In order to give a sense of dates, I think this may be a child of William & Selina:

GREGORY, CLARENCE  ERNEST      (Mother's Maiden Name:) WOOD
GRO Reference: 1903  J Quarter in SHIFNAL  Volume 06A  Page 640
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Yes Clarence is one of mine, one of 9 born to William and Selina born between 1882-1903.

How much research have you done yourself?
Censuses? Birth certificates? Marriage certificates?

Online trees are not to be trusted! One mistake, and everyone else copies it ::)

You really need to follow back, generation by generation.

FamilySearch.org is free to use (but you do need to register).
FreeBMD is free.
FreeReg is also free and may have the parish registers you need?

Thanks for the advice and info, all of which shows that Im on the right track. On 1841 census have found John Gregory with wife Mary and family at Glasshouse Row. Its getting back further that is problematic at the moment.

Hi, John Gregory is my 4x Great Grandfather married to Mary but not sure going further back.  I think Johns father may have been Joseph Gregory but not sure.  Are you local to where the family lived ?
