Welcome to RootsChat. We are a helpful, friendly bunch and I hope you find us useful.

Can you please give us as much information on Denis Buckley as you have. Did he marry and what was his wife's name? for example.

There are a few Military records for the name of Denis Buckley on Ancestry.

Need to make sure have the correct one first.

I think I may have found something.

Was his mother's name Ann? Was his mother's address 59 Barrack ? Street Cork. The address of 10 Mary Place, Cork shows up in this record too.

He was in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and had two service numbers  5626 and 7574.

If you can make another couple of posts here I will be able to send you a personal message regarding this.

His mothers name was Margaret.
I have a letter from Dennis buckley where he specifically names his regiment as  RGA royal garrison artillery who did have 2 barracks  in Cobh harbour Co. Cork
He goes on to mention details of an armoured train ambush in the Boer War. He was captured by the boers along with Winston Churchill who he subsequently helped to escape.
In Churchill’s Book  My early Life this ambush is retold in great detail along with references to royal Dublin fusiliers but no artillery  gunners  who were probably small in numbers among the larger RDF force
Back to you

Possibly the best way forward with this is to take out a subscription yourself for Ancestry.Co.Uk and you could then check out the records for yourself. There are a number of records with the name of Denis Buckly and I would not like to quote the wrong one.

Good luck with your search
