bridget stafford duncormick
« on: Sunday 04 March 18 21:34 GMT (UK) »
Hello !
I am trying to find information on my Whelans and Staffords from Rathangan/Duncormick.  John Whelan married Bridget Stafford in 1828 and had eight children: Peter, Catherine, Margaret, Patrick, John, Stephen, Mary and Elizabeth. All born Rathangan/Duncormick 1828-1846.  Any chance we have some common relatives?
Thanks for your time.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

*non-Roman Catholic Marriages are recorded from 1845,

Thank you, but I already have their baptismal records.  I am looking for where they went as adults.  I lose the family entirely after Griffith's in 1853.  There are no more records  of them in Rathangan after that. Where did they go?  I am hoping that some Whelan or Stafford will see my post and identify with the names and connect with me.

Hi

What year was Stephen born?   That was quite an unusual christian-name in those days, so I went looking to see where else Stephen Whelan crops up.

In Dublin South there is a marriage of a Stephen Whelan in 1865.
Also Dublin South there is the death of a Stephen Whelan in 1876, age 50.....

Then I noticed there are marriages in Dublin South, around that same time, of Margaret, Catherine, John, Patrick, Elizabeth and Mary Whelan.  However, these last six christian-names are not that unusual, so that may just be a coincidence.

There is also the death of Bridget Whelan in 1896, age 90 - again in Dublin South.

Maybe confirm the year Stephen was born.
Then see if anyone can locate the fathers name for the Stephen who married in 1865.
A long shot I know, but may be worth checking.

Cheers

Thank you for your interest !

Stephen Whelan was born in 1844.

Catherine, Margaret and John came to the United States. I am at my wits end looking for Peter, Patrick, Stephen, Mary and Elizabeth.  I have looked in Ireland and the States and have found nothing conclusive.  Maybe they died.  So hard to tell.  I am very frustrated with all of this.

I will look at the Bridget Whelan you suggested.  Maybe something will come of that.

My hope was that someone on rootschat would connect with me who is also related to this family and we could help each other.  I have everything on the three in the States but nothing on the five that stayed behind.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to me.

:-)

no Anne that I found, but always possible I suppose.

Peter b 1828.  Patrick b 1836.  Both Rathangan/Duncormick/Wexford.  In 1901 they would have been 73 and 65 respectively.

With no dates posted for anyone I didn't know how old they would have been in 1901....
