Hi Archie,

I missed the gravestone of Mary Ramage nee Murray when I lasted visited Temple Kirkyard but found the Cornwall headstone of another branch of my ancestors.  I'm very grateful to you.

Many thanks,

Maggie

Hi Archie
Thank you very much for the photo, it means a lot to us in the Colonies.
I only wish I could get there myself.
Would there be any other Ramages or Donaldsons with headstones.

Cheers

Hi Maggie and Bryan,

good to hear you are happy with what I sent you, right then I have a attached a photo of John Donaldson's Headstone, it is sadly  the worse for wear, but you can make out his name at least. On the stone it reads, ( Erected by John Donaldson in memory of William Donaldson ) it seems that another message or date are all worn away.

Ramage. In the old record book that is badly written there is Thomas Ramage
( 8/12/1888 ), and buried in the same ground is Margaret Brown ( 26/9/1914 ). We then have a Jane Alison Ramage ( 21/1/1897 ), Mary Anderson Ramge
( 11/9/1903 ), Euphemia Ramage ( 17/4/1924 ), Richard Ramage ( 14/3/1931 ), Helen Ramage ( 17/3/1948 ) they are all in the same plot. I have put an arrow pointing to where the plot is at the fence, it is behind the stone with the steps behind the Cross about 20 feet away. I will send anoteher after this.

Quote. If I can make someone smile I have made their day. :)

Best

Archie.

You will see exactly where John Donaldson is buried in the photo with the arrow.

I have attached a photo of where the other Ramages are buried, the problem is there is one stone on top of the other, I have no idea which is theirs, sorry about that. The Council has informed me that money is short and they have cut back on the maintenance on the graveyards, I will have to do a bit of begging and see if I can take it over, I could make it look really nice.

What part of Australia are you in ?, we are off on Tuesday to Brisbane for 4 weeks, 1st week we are staying in Amaroo then 3 weeks in Elimbah Q.L. then on the way back 3 nights in Singapore.

Best.

Archie.

Hi Archie,

Many thanks once again - your pictures are wonderful.  Do you have family buried in the Kirkyard?

Bryan,  I'll send you my new email address.

Regards,

Maggie

No family buried there I am a R.C. though that makes no difference, we are all the same, and at the end of the day we all pray to the same man up there.

This was a presbyterian Church the one further up the village was the Free Church, they even had their own school, and a bit of in fighting in the village I heard.

I am a Scottish Knight Templar and that is why I have a great interest in the area, I have been digging up information for the past 5 years, this was the HQ of the Templars in Scotland.

The villagers are very nice and will help if they can.

I discovered a Knight Templar stone inside the church in 2006, it has been there for years and nobody knew what it was, I was lucky to see it for what it is, the stone is now in Rosslyn Chapel in the Crypt for safety, I will send it to you after this.

I have attached photos of the two Presbyterian schools, the original is outside the gates of the old ruined church, the school was built in 1688 and closed around 1803, in that year the new school was opened and that unfortunately closed last year.

Best.

Archie.

Here it is the Templar Stone, I cleaned up the photo to reveal what it would have looked like new, it dates from between the 13th to the 14th century,

Best.

Hi Archie,

Thank you very much for the further interesting photographs.  Amazing to know that you discovered the historic stones.  Quite something!  Also fascinating to know that you are dedicated to preserving Scottish history.  Do you know if there's a book on Old Temple?  I have one on Old Gorebridge with a few pics of Temple.

Best wishes,

Maggie
