CAULFIELD: Elusive ancestors in Cardiff - help me!!!
« on: Saturday 06 August 05 13:19 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone!

I am having a NIGHTMARE trying to locate my ancestor - Catherine Caulfield, born Poole - and her parents!

I have found her in the 1901 census:

20 Godfrey St., Cardiff St. Mary, Glamorgan
William Caulfield, head, mar, 27, dock labourer, born Ireland
Catherine Caulfield, wife, mar, 23, born Cardiff, Glamorgan
Jane Poole, mother-in-law, wid, 50, born Bridgwater, Somerset
John Poole, brother-in-law, sing, 21, born Cardiff, Glamorgan
Mary B. Poole, sister-in-law, sing, 17, born Cardiff, Glamorgan

I have Catherine and William's marriage certificate. Here are the details:

6 October 1900
St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Tyndall Street, Cardiff
William Caulfield, 28, bachelor, labourer, residing at 34 Tyndall St., son of Richard Caulfield (deceased) a diver ... and ...
Catherine Poole, 22, spinster, residing at 34 Tyndall St., dau of John Poole (deceased) a labourer ...
Witnesses: Florence Driscoll and Johanna Driscoll

I have Catherine's birth certificate. Here are the details:

16 July 1877
45 Metal St., Roath, Glamorgan
Catherine, a girl
dau of John Poole, a hobbler[?], and Jane Poole (late Garwood, formerly Union)
Informant: Jane Poole, mother, 49 Tyndall Street, St. Mary

In 1891 I found Catherine working as a servant. Here are the details:
27 Pendoylan St., Cardiff St. Mary, Glamorgan
Ellen Crowley, head, wid, 53, labourer, born Cork, Ireland
Julia Crowley, dau, sing, [job hard to read], born Cardiff, Glamorgan
Catherine Poole, serv, 14, domestic, born Cardiff, Glamorgan

However I can't seem to find Catherine's Parents in 1891 census, or any of them in the 1881 census! Can anyone help?

Andy :-)

Hi Andy,
I think I may have found them in the 1881 in Roath, Glamorgan - most names match so I'll transcribe it and post it here and  you can make up your mind whether it's them!  :-\

Hi Prue!

Thanks for looking, but that's not them. You can find that family on the 1901 census still living in Roath.

Thanks again
Andy :-)
