John Leslie Montgomery Connor & Elisabeth Keitley Duke Street Athy
« on: Monday 12 March 18 01:49 GMT (UK) »
Family lore has it John (Leslie) was an Area Engineer for KCC and perished on railings while on a late return from a local public house. Date are confirmed as 11 Mar 1896, on probate doc. I know he was C of E/I but can get no records for Elizabeth or location for burial - any info on either very welcome.
I know they lived at some stage at 55 Duke Street, Athy.
Much thanks in advance,
L

He is listed in the Will Calenders as Leslie, I don't see a death Cert.
I thought there would be something about his death in the Kildare Observer.
http://archive.irishnewsarchive.com/Olive/APA/KCL.Edu/#panel=home
There is a piece where a letter from his wife is read out which states he was engineer to Baltinglass Union for 14 years, she is appealing for any money due to him as she has a large family to support, the guardians don't think there will any money left as what is due will not cover the law costs.
It's in Saturday May 1 1897 issue.
A note to the Baltinglass Union from March 1896 saying he was unable to attend work for the past week.
His name on that is Leslie E Connor.
You might like to see if there is anything else it's free to search.

Searching the newspaper using Leslie E Connor and Leslie M Connor it appears he worked for both Baltinglass and Athy Unions.

He might have been from Donegal or Kerry and taken "home" for burial!
