John Gillis Sr. Lot 14, Prince Edward Island

Looking for descendants or ancestors of this family.  The Gillis family came to PEI in the 1770's from the Isle of Barra or South Uist in Scotland.  The other families that emigrated around the same time were the MacLellan, MacKinnon, see URL below:

Hi Sandra:  Thank you for your reply.  I live on Prince Edward Island so I am familiar with those websites.  I was hoping to find more about the Scottish end.  We were at the Isle of Skye in 2015 and the guide was telling us about the link between Bonnie Prince Charlie and Flora MacDonald.  Apparently she came from South Uist and the people there aided him.  I was especially interested in the South Uist location as that is where many of my Scottish ancestors came from.  The naming pattern in the Scotch and Irish families makes it difficult sometimes to find the correct John or Donald Gillis as there are so many of them.  Good luck with your research.

Maybe it might be worth transferring this thread to the Scotland board - a moderator could do that for you.
Its a wide spectrum of surnames you are asking about - perhaps trying asking about one at a time and that bring a better response.  :-\

Yes, I agree but Barra and the Uist Islands were not included in Scotland, so I thought I would try to contact Canadian descendants of these families.  Thank you.

Is this a list of the same families that you put up here?
