Orphanage In Inverness 1920s - 1930s ?
« on: Tuesday 13 March 18 10:45 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know name of orphanage in Inverness during 1920s and whether and where records might be available ?  I know that my mum and uncle were put in there by family due to family circumstances, but returned to family two years later.

Many thanks.

I think this would relate to the Highland Orphanage at Culduthel House Inverness:

I would suggest your first point of enquiry should be the Highland Archive Centre at Inverness:

No idea why but the children of my Inverness grandparents were in Aberlour.  It is still a childrens home.

My grandmother died in 1933 leaving three under 5's . Grandfather sent the children there until he remarried- 11 months later then they came home.

No benefit system then for single parents!

Orphanage update.

Spurred on by the original poster I have been in contact with Aberlour and indeed the siblings were in their care - this is a long way from Inverness!  I was very surprised that the time they spent there was a lot longer than family history led us to believe.  We were told that as soon as grandfather remarried our new grandmother took the children home.

Paper work shows three years!  :o :o :o :o

Isn't it great how anothers post inspired you to look further & get the info. not as joyful as should have been but...good on you & learning from it even 'though it's a wee bit sad to say the least but a result in a short time & may now inspire others like myself! although a different area.
