Very recent death certificate copy
« on: Tuesday 13 March 18 19:21 GMT (UK) »
How difficult is it to get a copy of an extremely recent death certificate?

My mum in law died at the end of February; we did ask her husband if he could get a copy of the certificate for us, but he hasn’t (reasons too much to go into here).

Thanks
Lisa

From the GRO website -

How do I order certificates for very recent events?

GRO is not able to issue certificates for events that have taken place within the last six months (for marriages this period is extended to eighteen months)

Have you tried contacting the Register Office where the death was recorded as they may have a different policy?

If you know where the death was registered why not call the registrar and ask?

Yes, I think I shall do that tomorrow. They have a website but it’s a bit vague.

A phone call to the registration office (assuming you know the district) will get you a copy, it may well still be in an open register and if it is the cost would be £7 (plus postage probably )

Phoned them, spoke to a very helpful lady who has explained the process we need to go through, which is quite simple.
