DNA segment size
« on: Wednesday 14 March 18 16:02 GMT (UK) »
I have recently paid to upgrade at familytreeDNA following my autosomal DNA transfer.

What surprises me using the chromosome browser is how low in cM they go when detailing the match.

I have one match, whose only real match is 13.6 cM on chromosome 17 in a common pile up area, who has details of matches (mostly 1 or 2 cM) on 9 other numbered chromosomes, and 6 on X chromosome. Total match 37 cM.

Before upgrading I would have thought 37 cM, longest block 14 cM, an X match as well - this is someone I must really be related to if I could only find out how.

Now I realise she is unlikely to be related at all, or only a very long way back, yet she shows as 3rd to 5th cousin.

You live and learn.

Regards Margaret
