The above baptism records are missing from the Essex Record Office.  I am looking to confirm a baptism of Joseph Balls in c1796.  Can anyone help?

Hi Tycho

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

According to Phillimores Atlas, they were at Colchester before closure

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/a?_ref=38

Maybe they haven't been unpacked and/or indexed yet?

Have you tried the transcriptions on family search

https://www.familysearch.org/search/search/record/results/?count=20&query=%2Bbatch_number%3Ac043221

you need to create a free user name and password before use.

or there's atranscription on freereg

Many thanks for the quick response dawn.  Unfortunately the particular set of records (1793-1799) is missing from the ERO.  The records up to and from those dates are available.  my great, great, great g'father was born in Lt Horkesley in 1795 but I can't confirm that. Thanks anyway for your email.
