I had an earlier thread:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=777056.new;topicseen#new asking about my ancestor Ann TRUSS. On the 1851 census for Kent, she says she was born in Wickham, Bucks, which I've interpreted as Wycombe.
I went to my local FHL and could not find her baptism in the register for Wycombe 1760-1765 (she says she's 88 in the 1851 census).
However, I did get to look at the marriage register for Kent. Ann Truss married Richard Hayes by Banns in Shipborne, Kent on 4 Oct 1801, and both are of the parish. There are two witnesses: John and Esther Colgate (or Cobgate, hard to read). I don't know who they are. The bride/groom signed with an X. What is not mentioned is whether Ann was a spinster or a widow.
I finally ordered Ann's death certificate as well. She's registered by her daughter Mary, who says she's 94 - which puts her birth year at closer to 1761, different from the 1851 census and 1841 census (which indicates she's b. about 1766).
I am still stuck and cannot find Ann's baptism in Buckinghamshire! I am further confused because Ann had children from 1802-1812. So her youngest daughter Susan was born when she was 51? That seems utterly impossible in that day and age (and is extremely rare even now).
Any advice is appreciated!
