James Baines Family
« on: Saturday 24 March 18 05:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi there, I was wondering if anyone can help.

My great grandfather James Baines born January 1871 in Bradford, Yorkshire, he married Mary Ann Anker (my great grandmother) in 1895 and they had 3 children, Elsie, Hilda (my grandmother) & Benjamin. In 1903 Mary Ann died aged 29. Around 1905 James remarried but his new wife did not want his children, so they gave them away. James & his wife went on to have 2 sons.

My problem is I can't find any info on his new wife's name or the names of their 2 sons, when they married etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Gaye.

There is a possible marriage of a James Baines to one of two women including a Annie Jane Watson Sep 1904 Qtr  Bradford    9b   252  and there is a death of an Annie Jane Baines age 39 Jun Qtr 1908  Bradford    9b   94    :-\

I wonder if this is Annie J Watson in 1901 already with two sons from a previous marriage https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X9PP-X1M

By 1911 looks like both the sons are living back with their grandmother https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X9PP-X1M

Could this be James Baines with son Ben in 1911(although the birthplace is out)- listed as a widower https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWBW-G14

Hi Kay

Thanks for the info, I did actually come across Annie Jane Wood in my search but couldn't find any sons, so I dismissed that. An elderly aunt of mine told me that her grandfather, James had remarried and had 2 sons, but she could have meant that his new wife had 2 sons from a previous marriage.

Also might explain why I could only find 1911 census for Elsie & Hilda living with the Rennard family and nothing on Benjamin, maybe James & Annie didn't want the girls but kept Benjamin.

The census for James & Benjamin looks right because the ages match up with my records.

Thanks so much for your help, I think you have cleared up a few of my headaches I get when looking up info on this side of my tree lol  ;D

Thanks again
Gaye

Hi Gaye,

I too had a look at your question yesterday and came up with the same answers as Kay99.

There are also Public Member Family Trees on Ancestry which also come to the same conclusion. If the details are correct have a look at the Ancestry trees, you may have relations you haven't found yet in your search.

Ian

As they were both listed as born Preston is this a connection
