Mary Susannah Hunter b abt.1860 - Help Needed!
« on: Sunday 25 March 18 15:54 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm really struggling to find any information on my GG Grandmother Mary Susannah Hunter.
I know she was born around 1860 but unsure where. She married my GG Grandfather Carlisle ( Carlyle) Robinson in 1896 in Hartlepool which is where I'm from but I can't seem to find her parents.
I have found a birth in Great Ouseburn, Yorkshire but not feeling 100% that its her.
Can anyone else possibly give this one a go?

I'm back so far on all branches other than this one and desperately need to crack it or at least have a date or two to order her birth certificate.

Thanks everyone!

Heidi

Do you have her marriage certificate / record? If so what was her father's name?

Was she a spinster when she married or was this a second marriage?

Do you have her on any census returns, before/after her marriage?

Welcome to rootschat

It looks as though the Mary Susanna whose birth was registered Great Ouseburn was buried at Boroughbridge 16th March 1862 (an infant) though I can't see a death registration for her

According to the 1901 and 1911 Census records she was born about 1875/6 in the County of Durham.

I think you need to work backwards this rather than jump to her birth. Go through the census records when she is with Carlyle - then you know you have the correct Mary - collect what she says about her age and birth place.

Definitely obtain her marriage certificate - then go through census records BEFORE she marries, as you will have her father's name to help.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Just beat me to it Keyboard, but she's down as being 30 in 1891, 25 in 1901 and a free search of the 1911 has her as 35.
EDIT : sorry that 1891 is his ( I assume) first wife

The Robinson children of Carlyle and Mary Susannah have the mother's maiden name as Hunter. Therefore it would appear that she was a spinster on marriage.
