Blucher’s Lodge near Caistor
« on: Sunday 25 March 18 20:27 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on the location of Blucher’s Lodge, which according to newspaper reports, was near Caistor. It was the home of the Thompson family up until the 1850s but searching on Google comes up with nothing. Hopefully someone with some local knowledge may be able to help.

Thanks in advance!

I don't have local knowledge, but looking at notices in the newspapers which mention Blucher's Lodge, I see Robert THOMPSON of there married Charlotte FOSTER in 1849. And father Edward of there dies in 1853. In the 1841 census the family are farming Caistor Moor Farm which you can see on this map (to the north-west of Caistor):

Perhaps Blucher's Lodge was associated with the farm?

On the 1841 Census, Robert Thompson and Edward Thompson are followed by Samuel and Rebecca Waters.
An inquest into the sudden death of Rebecca , age 55, wife of Sam Waters, describes her residence as " ... opposite a place called Blucher Lodge." (Stamford Mercury,1 Oct 1841)

I can't find the exact location but there is an Elizabeth Mackintosh there in 1881. The sequence is North Kelsey Road, ditto, ditto Bluchers Lodge, North Kelsey Road, ditto, ditto, ditto, Caistor Union Workhouse.

Caistor Arts and Heritage Centre might be worth a try.
