Help with 427 London Rd U.D. Please

The 1926 & 1927 directory of Croydon has 427 London Road, Croydon listed as Restholme Nursing Home (Mrs. A.C. Johnson - C.M.B.).

By the 1928 directory the re-numbering had taken place and 427 had become 1001 London Road.

You can see 1001 (previously 427) on this overlay map from the mid 1950's.

I think this end of London Road may come under Thornton Heath as well.

I had wondered if it could have been a Nursing Home as I couldn't see why else the baby wasn't born at home as was usual in those days.

You've saved me lots of research - thank you very much.

Thank you also to everyone else who gave me information on this post - it all helps build up the picture. It's amazing what chaos can be caused by re-numbering!!

Also the house itself doesn't seem big enough for a Nursing Home - maybe it goes further back that we think.

My grandmother also has 427 London Rd on the place of birth (U.D.) and it was not her parent’s residence. She was born in 1923.

And I’ll just add (2 years too late) that the person the house was registered to: Mrs. A.C. Johnson - C.M.B. The C.M.B. Stands for Central Midwives Board.
