Who witnessed James Ingram marrying Eliza in Airdrie 23.02.1849?
« on: Thursday 29 March 18 04:48 BST (UK) »
Does any kind soul have access to records of Broomknoll Free Church Congregation in Airdrie?

James Ingram (my great-great-grandfather) married Eliza Patterson there on 23rd February 1849. I have the Ancestry transcription but there's no image to peruse!

May I wish you all a Happy Easter.

Many thanks
Malcolm

If its on scotlands people, then there will be a modest fee to view.
Ancestry is pants for scotland records.

You won't find witnesses, it was a proclamation of marriage not the event.

Thanks DonM,

How likely amI to find a record of the event itself?

In Airdrie in 1849? Not at all likely, I fear.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

The probability of any pre-1855 marriage record listing the names of witnesses is small. I don't actually recall ever seeing such a one.

The Old Monkland record of this marriage might include the actual date of the wedding, but the New Monkland one won't - what the New Monkland one lists is what fee the couple paid on which Sabbath for having their banns proclaimed.

If the Old Monkland record doesn't tell you the date of the marriage, it should be in the birth certificates of any children born in 1855 or after 1860.
