Emily Sarah King and John Evans
« on: Friday 30 March 18 10:04 BST (UK) »
Hi,

One of my missing links is a John Evans from Anglesey, Wales, born c1875. I know his brother (William) emigrated to Canada and it looks possible that John may have also emigrated as i think I have found them lodging together in Calgary in the 1911 census. William I know married in Canada and I think I may have found a marriage for John in Alberta to Emily between 1919 and 1921.

I am trying to find the marriage details to establish their parents names and see if it the right family

Emily (born 1873) emigrated on 13 Sept 1919 age 45 and on the ships manifest it says to be married John Evans. John himself emigrated in 1907 and was originally from Wales.

In the 1921 Canadian Census they are a married couple.

Both died and are buried in Queens Park Cemetery, Calgary Emily in 1965, John in 1963.

I would apprecite some help to see if it is the right family.

Many thanks

Alan

Sadly under Ontario’s privacy laws, records cannot be released which are of a private and sensitive nature for specified periods of time after their occurrence.

Birth records are available to the public 95 years after they occur - marriages are available 80 years later - and death records, 70 years.

Hi Sandra,

Thank you for your help and advice. The couple you show in Battle River are the ones I am attempting to find marriage details for.

You mention the privacy rules for the state of Ontario - does this also apply to Alberta?

Ancestry show the wedding under Alberta, Canada Marriages Index 1898-1942 but I don't have world wide access to see the details -I wondered if perhaps someone else on Roorschat had?

Kind regards

Alan

Sadly no further details on ancestry.

Marriage records in Alberta are not public until after 76 years have passed from the date of marriage. To apply for a genealogical search of marriage records less than 75 years old, you must be able to show that the bride and groom are deceased, and that you are an eligible next of kin (parent, sibling, children or spouse).

Hi Sandra,

Thanks for your further input. The marriage I think was in 1920 so that makes it about 97 years ago - so presumably is now publicly available?
