By a dint of luck I have largely answered my own question. I was looking on the UK military BMD's and found a reference to a Georgeana Lawrence - male. as Brooks Lawrence had a daughter Georgiana I thought there might be a family connection and decided to check it out. It turned out to be a Mary Handcock, wife of Tobias Handcock a half pay army officer, living in Westmoreland and giving an affidavit for her mother for a pension following the death of her father George Lawrence in 1847 at Windsor. He was the Poor Knight of Windsor and formerly Major in the 13th Dragoons, So I now know that George Lawrence married Eliza at Clonmel, Tipperary on 5 June 1792. Also I have been able to trace some of her descendants. Tobias Handcock died at Clonmel, Tipperary on 13th April 1871.
Which doesn't quite answer the question of where Brooks, George and James Lawrence of the 13th Hussars / light dragoons were born but increasingly points towards Tipperary where Brooks is noted as a common surname in the County.
