Surname: Voisey
« on: Saturday 31 March 18 08:18 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to find information about the Voisey's that made fine hand crafted furniture in London in the late 1890's - early 1900's through to about 1950's.  My great grandfather Walter Voisey (b. 1878) apparently worked there with his older brother, which I was told was Robert, but I now believe it was Bertie Alfred Voisey (b. 1886).  I have all the names of parents (William and Mary Ann Voisey) and of siblings, spouses, etc.  Walter emigrated to Australia in 1925.

I have been told that the furniture was quite spectacular, and on an Antique Roadshow the expert said, when seeing a piece "There is no doubting its a Voisey", so I'm surprised I can't find anything on Google.

Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks, Wendy

The spelling may be Voysey.

You have put:

'I have been told that the furniture was quite spectacular, and on an Antique Roadshow the expert said, when seeing a piece "There is no doubting its a Voisey", so I'm surprised I can't find anything on Google.  '

How do you know that he was not referring to Voysey, as in:

Very good point !  I don't know that - and to be honest the person that left the information about this was wrong about some other stuff!

I may be looking for something that doesn't exist lol.

Thanks - sometimes you can have the blinkers on and need someone to help take them off!

 :) :)

William is listed as a cabinet maker on all the Baptisms. I can see him in Street Directories mainly 108 Spencer St. but he doesn't appear in any Trade Directories that I can see.
