That’s odd if she intended to stay in England as she is listed with Ewan in the Australian Electoral register in 1924.

Oh yes. It's all guesswork.
Two possible reasons...
Her name was not removed from the Victorian electoral roll and she was not in fact there in 1924.
or
She returned ???

Thanks everyone for your amazing help.  I've spent a huge amount of time trying to crack this one but in spite of all your wonderful and insightful input, I'm sorry to say I couldn't find what happened to Rosemary Hudson or indeed her mother Muriel.

From all the clues, it looks probable that they both came back to Britain heading for Devon I'm assuming after a divorce between Muriel Helen Joan and Ewan Ronald Henry Hudson but couldn't find that either  ::)  I found a possible 2nd marriage for Muriel to Ellison Munro in 1928 but was unable to link in Rosemary or to confirm that this is the same Muriel I'm researching.  The closest I can get is Muriel and Ellison living in Kensington with 1 other person listed on the 1939 record.

The trouble is I am just not knowledgable enough about research of this nature to know how to progress and feel like I've been going round in circles!  This may just be one of those puzzles I'll have to put to one side until I've got a bit more experience.  Anyway a huge thank you for your time and expertise it has been a great but steep learning curve.

A ERH Hudson aged 50, a gardener, is on the passenger list leaving London to go to Sydney on 6th July 1948. Last address in the UK was Locksley House, Tower Street, Northam, Devon. It might be worth trying to find out who was living there.

Not much help, but maybe of interest  https://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101223794-locksley-house-northam#.WsKewNPwYnU

That certainly does look like her doesn't it - reverted to using her maiden name, but the remarriage recorded in both that and her "official" married name.

Hi All,
Muriel's parents were married in India in 1897 and she was possibly their only child.
Herbert George ARNOTT joined the wartime forces and at that time the family lived in Kent
When in 1922 Muriel and Rosemary are seen on the British incoming passenger lists she gives her intended address in England as Matravers, Bridport, Dorset.

1921 Electoral Roll show Herbert George and wife Ellen Middleton ARNOTT living at "Cherry Cottage" Wilditch, Dorset.
So it looks like she was intending to go to her parents.

Ewan Ronald Henry HUDSON's sister Jocelyn Mary, married in 1925 and one wonders whether the record of his returning voyage to Australia from England in February 1926 was in connection with this. Possibly  divorce proceedings between Ewan and Muriel were instigated  at this time too, as they both seem to have re-married within the couple of years after.
