Hall Family from Clackmannanshire
« on: Sunday 01 April 18 00:14 BST (UK) »
Hi

My Hall families seem to have been in Clackmannan for at least 300 years. Many seem to have followed traditional naming patterns. Less frequently these patterns have slight variations. Throughout the records on Scotlandspeople there are Hall families marrying other Hall families. I suspect but have no proof yet that these are cousins.

My question is: Thomas Hall and Marion Hall had a number of other children (6 at least). The first born child I can find to Thomas and Marion Hall was David Hall born 1672 but the only David Hall I can find who would be Thomas father is the one who married Janet Milne. Of David and Janets 4 children I have been unable to locate a Thomas Hall born about 1639-1650. Could this be a case of the Halls not following the scottish naming patterns or have I missed a record. Can anyone find the record?

The children for Thomas and Marion are: Catherine, David, Marion, Archibald, Thomas, Bessie and John. John is my direct ancestor.

Suggestion, your title mentions Clackmannan, does that mean you are restricting your search to the village of Clackmannan or are your searching in the County of Clackmannan (Clackmannanshire)?
Perhaps opening your research area to include the surrounding area would provide results and would certainly include towns & villages with larger populations and employment opportunities.

Of course you may have already done this.

Cheers

Thanks I've updated the title. Many of the records are from Clackmannan but some are from the other localities in Clackmannanshire.

My Francis Hall (1782?)- 1829 married Agnes Muir 1782-1872.

Their children:

John
Margaret
Robert
Jane
Agnes
Elizabeth
Christian
Mary
Roger
Janet
Frances

Based on naming traditions I would have expected to see Francis father as John Hall. The problem is that 3 of his childrens baptisms refer to Francis as 'junior'. This would indicate hes the son of Francis. Has anyone seen similar examples where that type of notation was incorrect?

If Francis father was John Hall who married Agnes Finlayson then Francis siblings were:

Elizabeth
Janet
Agnes
Margaret
"Frances" who married Agnes Muir
Robert
Agnes
John

These names are well reflected in Francis own children. Agnes Finlaysons father was named Robert.

I cant find a Francis Hall born to a Francis Hall around 1782.
