John Hume
« on: Sunday 01 April 18 21:22 BST (UK) »
John Hume was (possibly) my 3G-grandfather. He was baptised in Halstead in 1793. I believe he was a soldier, and there is a record of someone of that name in the Chelsea Pensioners' Service Records. If anyone has access to them I would be grateful for any information.

"Find my Past" has lengthy details in their military section. He was a Colour Sargent and signed up at the age of 16.

The Essex Standard, 5 July 1839, carries a report of his funeral and mentions he was a member of Chelmsford Provident Society, "5 honorary members"and "about 100 benefit members" attending. It describes the church being "filled in every quarter".

Minutes of the Society's 1818-1831 meetings are held Essex Record Office.
