Scotland - Harvey Family
« on: Monday 02 April 18 15:39 BST (UK) »
I have been tracing the Harvey family in Liverpool and traced a William Harvey DOB: 1839 Glasgow.. at some stage he moved to Liverpool & married Ann Hughes DOB: 1832 they married in 1859.  I would like to know more about him & more especially in Glasgow.  The reason I have posted on the general page is because I have traced his father to a place called Kilanamham, google can’t find it nor can I. His details are William Harvey DOB: 1808 from Kilanamham and I would appreciate any assistance.

Have you found William in the 1841 or 1851 census?

I think this may be the father William:

William Harvey/Harvie, b. 25 Nov 1807, Kilwinning, Ayrshire to Hugh Harvie and Elizabeth Craig

William Harvey was a ship’s carpenter, and married Margaret Hannah in 1831 in Glasgow Gorbals (she was from Tradeston). They had six children that I can find, all baptised in Glasgow:

Elizabeth Craig Harvey, 23 Nov 1832
Jean Harvey, 16 Nov 1834
Marion Harvey, 11 Jan 1836
William Harvey, 30 Apr 1838
Hugh Harvey, 21 May 1840
Alexander Harvey, 24 May 1842

I think this may be the family in 1841 - minus Jean and Marion:

Harbour St, Saltcoats, Ayrshire
Wm Harvey, 30, house carpenter, Ayrshire
Margaret Harvey, 30, outside census county
Elizabeth Harvey, 8, outside census county
William Harvey, 3, outside census county
Hugh Harvey, 1, outside census county

I can’t find the family at all in 1851, but the youngest son, Alexander, turns up again in 1861 in Toxteth, in the house of his brother William and wife Ann Hughes - and father William is also there. Alexander surfaces again in 1881 in Toxteth, married to an Eliza (born England) - and again in 1891 in Ayr, still with Eliza.

I think I’ve found Hugh in 1861 in Wrexham (he’s a plasterer); by 1881, he’s back in Toxteth, married to a Margaret Harris.

I can sort of see where ‘Kilinamham’ came from (not surprisingly, an Ancestry transcription…) - the original is a very poor scan - it looks like ‘Scotland, Killing….’ - the rest is unreadable…  ;D

Ruth,

I cannot thank you enough ...you are spot on.   I have cross referenced the details I have very scant but they match with the details you have sent me.

I would like to thank everyone who have looked for me ..
