Finding the date of birth for an ancestor
« on: Monday 02 April 18 20:12 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I've been trying to trace my 4x Great Grandmother, I got the supposed year of death for her but no information about her DOB so I was wondering if anyone has been in similar situation and how did you solve the mystery?

It really depends on the period, country, area and what records might actually be available (church records, newspapers, family Bible, etc.).

Father-in-law's father was baptised 1 Jan.1864 (the date civil registration of births in Ireland started) so no birth certificate. Luckily his twin brother's daughter, then in her 90s, was alive, very lucid and able to verify the actual date the twins were born in December 1863.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

My 4x Great Grandmother married in the Midlothians in Scotland in 1815 and was supposed to have died in 1879 but I'm beginning to suspect that might be incorrect. Ach, this is like searching for a needle in a haystack! hahaha.
