Help with Darke/Dyar please
« on: Monday 02 April 18 22:04 BST (UK) »
Hey everyone, first time posting about ancestry but here goes
I am at a brick wall with my grandfather Charles E Darke, born 1920 in Newton Abbot. I can find his birth certificate online but mothers maiden name is Dyar and i can find nothing matching this name as in marrying a Darke/other children etc
If anyone could give me advice as to how to go about finding out who is mum was,id be most grateful

There is a marriage in Newton Abbot 4th Qrt 1909:

Marwood DARKE and also on the page is a Florence Maud DYER (other names William Bray and Emma Hamlyn) Refs Newton A. 5b/313

Jules, there are plenty of births showing for DARKE and mother DYER (rather than DYAR) from this marriage in Newton Abbot.

Yes could possibly be a simple change of letter somewhere along the way

I was wondering why I couldn't find your Charles' entry for 1920. It is showing as DURKE/DYAR on FreeBMD.
