Mary Ann Ransom m Joseph Watts. Cressingham 1817
« on: Tuesday 03 April 18 11:37 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am looking for any family info about Mary Ann Ransom or her husband Joseph Watts who was a widower at the time of the wedding on 13 Nov 1817 at Little Cressingham.
I have found one son, John, born Little Cressingham in 1819. He became a gamekeeper at Santon Downham Hall.

Hello,

Unfortunately, few parish registers survive from Little Cressingham for the dates you're looking at.
There are some Bishops Transcripts though.

Found a burial for Joseph Watts at Little Cressingham, 11 November 1832, aged 49

On FindMyPast, there are banns for a Robert Flatt, single man, and Mary Ann Watts, widow, both of Little Cressingham - banns dates are May 24, May 21 and June 7, 1835.

Can't find a marriage though

Thanks Yorklass. This morning, I found his burial and that of a first wife that I didn't know about. Both at Little Cressingham. Very interesting about Robert Flatt, so many thanks for that detective work. I was unaware of her re-marriage.

His first wife was Sarah Rolfe a widow so not her maiden name, she was of Little Cressingham, Joseph Watts was of Beachamwell.
They married Little Cressingham 29 September 1810
Witness Francis Garred and William Fendick

She was 31 when she died

Just for notation sake as you are interested in the descendants of the second marriage.

Anthony Rolfe married Sarah Pratt 25 July 1806 at Little Cressingham.
Anthony was buried at Little Cressingham 21 February 1809 age 23.

Sarah Rolfe nee Pratt and her husband were witnesses to the marriage of John Pratt to Mary Lusher 29 April 1808, I suspect he was her brother.

Hello again Hookleg,

I'm afraid I'm confused with this family.

As I said, I couldn't find a marriage for Mary Ann and Robert Flatt

Decided to look at the 1841/1851 census, but couldn't find this couple.

I did, however, find Mary Ann Watts, living in Little Cressingham in both censuses.
Married to a John Watts, who was a gardener.

Mary Ann's birthplace is shown as Griston on the 1851 - which is four miles from Cressingham.

Searched for Mary Ann's born Griston around 1793, and found one - Mary Ann Ransom  !!

John Watts the son of Joseph and Mary Ann nee Ransome married Eliza Ann Johnson.
In 1841 their son also named John was a few months old so probably married 1838/1839.

John Watts born 1819 died 17 October 1901, probate to sons Frederick Ransome Watts and Algien Augustus Watts.
His wife Eliza Watts died 12 November 1901 her probate was handled by son John Watts.

ADDED looks like they married after son John was born
John Watts married Eliza Ann Johnson 13 September 1840 Threxton Norfolk.
This is from a transcription so the date need to be checked.
