Same marriage twice??
« on: Tuesday 03 April 18 18:03 BST (UK) »
Hi

I would be interested in your views as to why a couple would have married twice with a couple of months.
11th July 1830 in St Mary's Southwark, and then 27th September 1830 in St Mary's Lambeth.  Definitely the same couple (James Renwick and Hannah Bassett Scott) with different ministers and different witnesses. I have come across a baptism twice before but not a marriage. Anybody understand why this may have been done?
Thanks
Neil

HI, yes bans read on 12/9/1830...but according to the Lambeth one they were already married? Its very strange.

Maybe one or both of them weren't of age at the time of the July wedding, so they married without parental consent and then by September that situation had resolved itself, so they decided to do it again "properly"?
