Waldron help
« on: Wednesday 04 April 18 21:25 BST (UK) »
Hi, hope you can help.  I’m trying to trace my gg grandfathers history and I’ve got stuck. His name was William Waldron.  Born 1875 approx maybe in Devon.  Married Jeanette Greaves in Eastbourne in 1906 before moving to Melton Mowbray.  I’m looking for his birth and parents etc.  From his marriage certificate his fathers name was James Waldron, he was deceased at the time of marriage in 1906. Any help you can give me would be brilliant please. Thanks.

I thought because it was so unusual it would be easier to pick him out but I don’t seem to be able to find anything.

If the William Lavis is him, does that mean it’s possible his mother married again which is where the Waldron comes from? It’s because his father is listed as James on his marriage certificate.  Is there anyway I could find out for certain? I’m a bit of a novice as you can see.

Maybe - more research needed.  Have you found William Waldron in the 1939 Register for a precise birthdate, to compare with the 26 June 1874 found on William Lavis’ baptism?

Sorry - looks like William Lavis is a red herring. His naval record shows him using the Lavis name until at least 1919.

Back to the drawing board :)

The 1939 Census shows his dob as ? ? 1871.  Very unhelpful.

One thing I forgot to mention is that on his marriage certificate he is down as a widower as well.

His date of death is April 1944 too if that’s of help? One of the certificates I have for him has his name as William Renford Lawrence Waldron.

Oh blimey.  Sounds like he’s going to be a challenge!

Right then.  In 1891 William Waldron 17 b Tavistock is in service in Handley, Dorset.

Also there is “widow” Eliza Waldron, 38 b Lifton Devon.

Perhaps she is his mother?  She needs following up.
