then this is her birth
Births March quarter 1893

so could be end of 1892 or 1893.

There is a Mary Lancaster born December 1892 living in Dorking with a William, 1890, and, I think, Mary L Evans/Lancaster, 1916 on free search for 1939 register.

When and where was he actually born?

Did you buy a copy of his marriage cert to establish his fathers name and occupation?

Have you looked for him on the 1911 census?

There are various trees on Ancestry regarding this family BUT, as I believe was explained before, your grandfather was plain William Lancaster born 15/9/1890 Burslem, Staffordshire (son of William Lancaster and Louisa Jones who married 2/8/1886 Burslem and had many children).

William Lancaster married Mary Kitching 27/12/1913 Wolstanton Parish Church according to his army pension record.   3 children shown: William Walter born 28/5/1914, Mary Laura born 9/3/1916 and Walter born 15/5/1919.

William's death entry - Dec.qtr.1973 Surrey South Eastern (born 15/9/1890)
Mary's death entry - 1963 Surrey South Eastern (bc.1893).
