1895 tragic death in Cumberland, Maryland
« on: Sunday 08 April 18 20:56 BST (UK) »
In Nov. 1895 the Evening Times, Cumberland, reported the funeral of a  Mrs Thomas Sidey who died  after drinking carbolic acid.  If anyone has access to further reports on this tragedy, I would be grateful for more information. I am especially interested in knowing her first name, and her husband's occupation.  I believe him to be the Thomas Sidey, originally from Scotland, who was a photographer in Cumberland and am looking for confirmation.

Wonder if this is the same Thomas remarried - 1900 census High Street Clinton, Worcester, Massachusetts. The two children born in Maryland.  ??? Occupation fits.

Gosh, that was quick!

Christine53, thank you, yes, I think that must be the right person.

Sandra, thanks. I'd seen the paper on findagrave, but I think you've answered my question about who her husband was by linking her residence with his directory entry. So it looks as if she is indeed the wife of the Thomas I've been researching for a friend.
I had also found the 1900 census entry and thought it must be him and his 1st wife, as I also have what appears to be him in 1910 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, married to a lady called Agnes Morgan, 2nd marriage for them both. The details for Thomas on these two censuses almost tally - he's a photographer on both, but there are discrepancies in parents' nationalities, and dates.

I know from a detailed UK newspaper article that the Thomas in Cumberland working for Mr Towles is definitely the right one. He was b. 1860 in Scotland, and censuses show both his parents were English.
