Eugene Thomas William Richard Iliffe 1903-1980
« on: Monday 09 April 18 16:25 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I'm looking for any surviving relatives of Eugene Thomas William Richard Iliffe 1903 -1980.  Born and Died in Kibworth - Leicestershire but live in London for a long time.

Trying to piece together my wife's family tree and think he may be her paternal Grandfather but we have know records or knowledge of him other than what we've already found online.  (birth, death, army records and travelling to Canada)

TIA for any help

Hi and a warm welcome to Rootschat

I am not a relative , but on here we all help each other.

What does your wife's father's birth cert say about his father?  Is Eugene T W R Iliffe named as father?  If not what evidence do you have that he is his father?
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Hi,

A warm welcome from me also  :)

In 1939 he's living in Coventry with the Sparrow family, no other Iliffe persons in the household so possibly he's single.

Hi,

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Her fathers birth certificate does not have his fathers name on it. Since my father in law passed away some years ago he's no longer around to ask questions to but we think he knew relatively little about his father.  I do believe my mother in law still has a photo tucked away somewhere but doesn't want my wife or her sister to see it any time soon.

Cutting a long story short,  it seems my wife's grandfather and grandmother had a bit of a whirlwind romance.  He knew he was in the Scots Guards and we think he may have been either visiting or stationed in Windsor where my Wife's family are from, at the time of the relationship with her Grandmother.

We only had the name Eugene Iliffe to go by.  and found details of a Eugene T W R Iliffe in the Scots Guards Band based at Wellington Barracks, London and the early 30's and made a trip to Canada at the same sort of time for the Canadian National Expo.  It's quite a rare name in relative terms so was easy to trace backwards but is proving very difficult to trace forwards of that point, other than his death that is.

... Just caught up with the other comments too - thank you for taking the time to look for me, we already have most of the info but not about him living in Coventry?   I'll look that one up!

Father could be Richard Iliffe born 1871  Kibworth, Leicestershire who had remarried by the 1911 census - (which we cannot transcribe here because of copyright)
Father was a Professor of Music - hence the link to an army bandsman perhaps  ???
