The marriage registration looks more like cars, than cass. There’s no cars or cass baptism at great Easton from 1830 to 1840 though.

was Lydia the mother of Mary?

Not convinced!
Marriages -
Sep 1843 Dunmow  12 131
Cass, John
Grout, Lydia
+ two others (may pair off through registrations on new birth index)

Was this marriage at Great Easton??

1841 census, Great Easton, has John Cast, Mary Cast (both 40), Isaac, 16, Eliza, 12, Stephen, 10, David, 8, living "Work House Yard"
But William Savill, 60, is enumerated between John and Mary.

I couldn’t find any Cass or similar name marriages 1830 to 1840 in great or Little easton. Will have a look at the 1843 one. Lydia would be a stepmother then? Am I right in saying that we think Mary might have been the mother from the 1841 census?
