William Vickers Bell
« on: Wednesday 11 April 18 22:30 BST (UK) »
Looking for any information regarding William Vickers Bell. Birth records indicate birth registered Apr to Jun 1843 in Alston. Census records place him in Consett Co Durham 1881 to 1901 but I can find no record of a marriage. One of his daughter's Eunice Bell appears in the 1901 census only although I suspect  Annie Bell in the 1891 census may be Eunice. Eunice married in 1903 to George Frederick Anderson. Anderson/Bell is the lines I am researching but I cannot get back from William Vickers Bell . Any help greatly appreciated
Overal from Co Durham,
Overall from Finchingfield, Essex
Craig from Cumbria and Co Durham
Harrington from Essex
Anderson from Co Durham and Yorkshire,
Shaw from Selby and Darlington

I see that in 1891 William's birthplace is stated as Haltwhistle, Northumberland - not true as you know from the Alston birth reg (separate registration district from Haltwhistle) but only a few miles away over the county border, and it may be a useful indication that he had a connection with Haltwhistle.

I have a hunch that he may be the son of a John Bell b abt 1816 Allendale Northumberland and ?? Thompson, but that his mother died early on and John Bell remarried Sep qtr 1846 Auckland to Hannah Dixon nee Scott (they went on to have at least 2 Bell/Scott children registered in Haltwhistle, Ann and Anthony).

The family is in Haltwhistle in 1851: HO107/2416/201/38.  John is widowed again by 1861.

William’s birthplace in the 1851 census is Blaygill Hillhead, Cumberland.  Blaygill appears from this (admittedly later) 1873 directory entry to be in Alston, and to have had some Thompsons living in it:

John Bell b abt 1816 may in turn be a son of William Vickers Bell and Ann, who were baptising children in Allendale at the right time - see Familysearch. (I can’t see a son for them named John, but they did have a son Vickers baptised on 1 Feb 1817 at Allendale- could that be him in disguise?).

This WVB senior was baptised at Allendale, 28 Mar 1784 (again see FS) to parents John & Margaret.

John Bell & Margaret Vickers were issued with a marriage licence on 16 May 1783, and married at Allendale on 20 May 1783.  Both were of full age (21 or over).
