Records before 1911 are kept at the New Jersey State Archives.  Records from 1848 to present are also kept by the Local Registrars for individual counties, however many pre-1911 records have not survived.

I have searched here and nothing is found. I also tried to order a search but I do not know mothers surname which is a mandatory field of input.

The local registrars website states that they do not hold records for more than 100 years, and a search on the NJSA did not find him.

What information were you hoping that the death certificate would give you?

Do you know where he is buried?  Cemetery might have records, but probably a long shot given time period.

If you go back to the New Jersey State Archives website and search for Charles ( no surname ) , year range 1896 to 1896 , and County : Hudson , you will find Charles Hemming 64 , died 29 July 1896 Kearny, Hudson. This appears to be the Charles Henning found on the familysearch website.
