Hi can anyone help me ? i am trying to find the marriage of my aunt Joan Chapman born in Ackworth West Yorkshire on  29 AUG 1922 her parents were Thomas Chapman & Mary Ann Markey, I have sent for a few certs but when they get here the fathers name is not Thomas Chapman even though on the request form i put father Thomas Chapman, not only is it frustrating its the cost too. there must be a way to find the right cert without sending for them in the dark,
Thank you for any info / help

When & where did her siblings marry?

Which certificates have you applied for and rejected?

Did you locate the chapman family in 1939? Where are they?

All her siblings were married in the west yorkshire area, the last cert i got was Joan Chapman married John B Turner in Hemsworth 1954 but the father was wrong,
in 1939 the chapman family was living in Ackworth, West Yorkshire

Is Joan's name marked in the 1939 Register with a later annotation to add a married surname?

If redacted then do you have evidence that she is now deceased?

Other than Thomas, a widower, Brick Burner born 1892, the only other people viewable are twins born 1932. 4 5 redacted entries.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Perhaps she never married - have you considered that?

AND, we're only trying to help  :-*

If you are ordering from the GRO and state a father's name then they should not send you a certificate with the wrong name on, they should instead return your fee

It was easy for people to go looking for details of Joan's parents from the way the post was worded, must admit I did the same

do you know where your aunt lived\ died and whether they had children as all these details could help

If you are a member of Ancestry you can look up deaths for a Joan born on 29 Aug 1922 and then try marrying them off to find which one was formally chapman. however it seems there are a lot more Joans around than I was expecting so I stopped on that one.

And of course its always possible she emigrated, unless you know otherwise
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.
