John Brooks, Oxford

Brick wall, can anybody help please. Searching for baptism and parents of John Brookes who married Sarah Crapper in Oxford in 1803. Sarah was the daughter of Noah Crapper and Elizabeth Stevens. John Brooks and Sarah had five children before he died in about 1811. Many John Brooks in Oxford at that time, related to him through his daughter Sarah. Stuck. Can anyone assist please. The marriage took place at the church of St Peter le Bailey in Oxford on 19 April 1802.
John and Sarah were both 'of this parish' which means they were residing there at that time, but they weren't necessarily born there.  The banns also say 'of this parish'.

Unfortunately marriage records before 1837 didn't usually show their fathers' names, and the witnesses were Noah and Elizabeth Crapper - a fine old Oxford surname, but not helpful with finding John's family I'm afraid.

I'd go for John and Mary of Brampton as they have a daughter Ann bapt 4.2.1781 and there is a marriage of a Ann Brookes to a James Morgan at St Peter le Bailey 4.10.1802

but it's just a guess.

Added:  St Peter le B is within shouting distance west of the city centre (Carfax).  The other parishes are all a good way out of town.

Vicky do your Brooks family line have any connection around 1890 onwards with the many  Oxford Brooks that where connected to the canal working boat people .I am almost sure mine are there amongst the many Brooks

Thank you Jane Harrison, but my Brookes line were in the clothes cleaning business. I know my relative, daughter Sarah moved when she married, the other children were John Haddon Brooks, Charles Jabez Brooks (who became a printer I think) Aaron and Hannah Brooks. My sister Gil researched this family and the Crappers in detail but has had no luck with John Brookes. He remains a mystery! Good luck with your search for your Brookes line.  Vicky
