Chster Chronicle 11th Dec 1818
« on: Monday 23 April 18 14:26 BST (UK) »
I can see that there is an article in the newspaper in respect of Joseph Deane of Snape and his mother Elizabeth. Is anyone able to see the article or let me know the gist of it please.
Many thanks

Basically he was attempting to sell property or land, belonging to his mother, without her permission.

Hmm- that is what i thought! I will take out a short subscription and see what else I can find out about him. I am looking for some 'calamity' that happened to him and/or his family from around 1811- 1815. He is shown as Joseph Dean/Deane/Dain and lived at Snape near englesea Brook/Weston and was married to Sarah- so if you can see anything else that might relate to him that would be great! In the meantime I will do a PAYG with the website and have a look at the article.

Many thanks

Lots of Joseph Deans but the only one I can pin down to Snape was granted a Gamekeeper's Licence in 1806 and 1807.

Thank you xx That makes sense too. he was a bit of a rogue and I understand there was some sort of family calamity between 1811 and 1815 but cannot trace it as yet! The 1818 report is curious and I will maybe have a look at the old newspaper next time I am in Chester as I cannot justify a PAYG subscription with only 1 article at the moment! Many thanks indeed.

It's actually an advertisement by his mother warning people about her son's attempts to sell property belonging to her, and threatening legal action against anyone who is taken in by him.

You can get this much from Google Books:

"WHEREAS my son, JOSEPH DEANE, of Snape, in the township of Weston, the parish Wybunbury, in the county of Chester, hath made proposals without just right, or any order from me, his mother, ..."

Hi Shaun- I have never used Google Books for this research- which site do you use and how do you minimise the search please. Had a quick look but have not been able to work out how to specialise the search.
Many thanks

Just use the normal Google search for "Joseph Deane of Snape" including the inverted commas. That should bring up just the one hit ( not from a book but from the Chester Chronicle via Genes Reunited's South African site)
