I can't seem to find the marriage of Joseph Bowker, and wonder if someone could help with this.

His wife was Jane, and in 1841 the family were living in Bunbury parish with three children viz George, Samuel and Mary. Jane appears to have been born in Bunbury. Joseph was born in Tattenhall.

Looking on the GRO site there is a George Bowker Jun 1838 Mkt. Drayton 18 124 mmn Cooper
and Samuel Bowker Dec 1839 Nantwich 19 120 mmn Cooper.

There is a marriage for a Joseph Bowker to a Jane Cooper on 26 December 1836 in Whitchurch, Shropshire.

Thank you both very much for this.

I was hoping that the marriage would fall within the civil registration period but unfortunately it doesn't so I have no way of finding out who Joseph's father was. He was born in Tattenhall c1816 but there isn't a baptism listed as far as I can tell. There is a Samuel Bowker resident in the parish who had two children baptised there viz William in 1813 and Samuel in 1817 and I suspect that he is Joseph's father but I can't prove it.

Here's a possibility :

Joseph Bowker born 13 Jun 1818 , baptised 1 Jan 1824 , son of George Bowker and Hannah
Windmill Room Edward Street Independent , Stockport , Cheshire.

All the census that I have found him on so far give his place of birth as Tattenhall.

1841: Cheshire
1851: Chester Castle, prisoner; born Tattenhall
1861: Cheshire, Tattenhall
1871: Cheshire, Tattenhall

I can't find him in 1881; but have just found him as a prisoner in 1851

Wonder what he did?

If I've found the right Joseph Bowker he was tried at Chester Assizes and given 6 months for Larceny on 30 December 1850. No other details given.
