Damhead of Culzean
« on: Friday 27 April 18 17:47 BST (UK) »
One of my ancestors was a cooper at Damhead of Culzean. I know that a cooper made barrels but can anyone tell me anything about the place. I assume that it is near Culzean but I can not find any references to the place. Many thanks.

Hi there

What years are you looking at for the place name?

I have assumed that it is Culzean. I have a marriage in 1760 where one of the witnesses comes from Cullean mill and a baptism from that marriage in 1772 where the father is a cooper from Damhead of Cullean. Both events were in the parish of Kirkoswald. Many thanks.

Cullen Mill can be found here http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=14&lat=55.3131&lon=-4.8261&layers=4&b=1

Damhill might be Deanshill which is upstream near Maybole.
